Necessary Roughness Premieres Wed June 29 At 10 EST

USA has brought it again this summer with its new, original scripted, drama series Necessary Roughness premiering June 29, 10 EST.

A recent divorcee, played by Callie Thorne, gets a therapist job for a professional football team. Craig Bierko, Scott Cohen, Mehcad Brooks and Marc Blucas co-star in this season’s great USA lineup.

USA will launch Necessary Roughness with a 90-minute pilot (that’s including commercials). Even with USA’s mandate of “blue-sky shows” line, Necessary Roughness has a slightly different spin to it, mostly due to Thorne’s passionate enthusiasic style.

Nico

Scott CohenAn enigmatic Hawks employee with a job description that seems as vague as his background, Nico (Scott Cohen) is a professional problem-solver with a whole lot of tricks up his sleeve and no problem getting his hands dirty. He has a tendency to turn up unannounced with emergency assignments for Dani, and a maddening habit of never taking no for an answer. As Dani soon learns, Nico’s methods can sometimes be questionable, but there’s no denying that he manages to get things done. As for how he gets results? That’s just one of the many secrets that surround this inscrutable mystery man…

Terrance King

Mehcad BrooksWild, confrontational, charismatic and stubborn, Terrence “TK” King (Mehcad Brooks) is the New York Hawks‘ star wide receiver—and his coach’s biggest headache. Though a gifted player, TK is something of a loose cannon, with a violent temper, serious authority issues, and a nasty habit of dropping the ball. When his off-the-field antics grow out of control, TK is sent to Dr. Dani to work through his issues, and with her help manages to make some positive steps—like remembering how to hold on to a football again. But TK has still got a long way to go, and as Dani soon learns, it isn’t going to be easy; just when she manages to put out one fire with her new patient, she discovers another one ready to ignite.

Mehcad Brooks

Actor Mehcad Brooks has appeared in numerous television and film roles, most recently starring as “Eggs” on Alan Ball’s HBO hit series “True Blood,” opposite Anna Paquin and Steven Moyer. He is a SAG Award winner for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series on the ABC show “Desperate Housewives,” on which he played the son of Alfre Woodard’s character Betty Applewhite. This role earned him a nomination for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Image Award, and inclusion in Daily Variety’s “Ten Young Actors to Watch” feature in August 2005. He has also appeared in guest-starring roles on “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Boston Public,” “One on One” and “Cold Case,” among other television series.

Mehcad has appeared in a number of feature films, including Chris Carter’s upcoming feature “Fencewalker,” the Paul Haggis film “In the Valley of Elah” alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron, and Disney’s “Glory Road,” in which he appeared opposite Josh Lucas as a star NCAA basketball player.

An athlete himself, Mehcad grew up in Austin, Texas where, in addition to playing football and baseball, he was an All-State basketball player. He attended the University of Southern California, where he studied in the School of Cinema-Television. Mehcad modeled during his high school and college years, and is currently one of the faces (and bodies) of Calvin Klein Underwear.
